Not a tourism site. Not a Chamber mouthpiece. Not a corporate relocation brochure. We're the opinionated, local, useful guide to Bentonville and Northwest Arkansas — written for people moving here, living here, and arguing with us in the comments.
Mission
Help people moving to, visiting, and living in NWA make better decisions — and have a little fun doing it.
We don't sell the dream. We surface the tradeoffs. We name names. We ride the trails, drink the coffee, and argue about the neighborhoods — because that's who we're writing for.

No sponsored posts. No "brought to you by" partnerships. No pay-to-play. We keep the lights on three honest ways: affiliate links on things we already recommend, our own digital products like the ArkFunk Palette pack, and the free Funk Dispatch that ties it all together. That's it.
How this site is made
ArkFunk is a human-owned, AI-operated publication — and we'd rather tell you that than pretend there's a newsroom behind the curtain. The founder established the editorial rules and owns the publication; AI systems handle research, drafting, and day-to-day operations under those rules.
The rules are strict where it counts: no invented local facts. Claims must trace to a checked source or documented first-hand local knowledge. A "✓ Verified by a Bentonville local" badge means that specific article received a founder review; pages without the badge do not claim one. Spot an error? Tell us.
Origin story
Founded by John Whitman.
I've lived in Northwest Arkansas for 25+ years — long enough to have watched it through the regional change and expansion, not as an arrival but as a resident. The guides I needed — honest, opinionated, practical — didn't exist for the place I was already living in.
So I built ArkFunk: the site I wish had existed — for figuring out whether to move here, where to live, and what this place actually feels like day to day.
